Those who have worked the esparto grass know their harvest and later handling comprise great effort and skills. In other times, of great importance to the economy of lagoons, many people practiced this art but today there are very few folks who refuse to forget ancient teachings.  And even though almost all esparto grass production was sold without being manufactured, as raw material, there were people who became artisans.

Esparto grass (Stipa tenacissima) is a plant which grows well in calcareous and semi-arid hills near to the Reserve.
