Submerged vegetation in Laguna Blanca |
Semiarid surroundings of lagoons, barren plains and crops mainly, emphasize its uniqueness and create an amazing doorway to the Valle del Alto Guadiana. If we have enough time and take a careful look around us, the Reserve will unveil its charms, one of them –perhaps the most beautiful and delicate- exists under water. It is the submerged flora which adapted itself to the special characteristics of the lagoons and develops a lifestyle of high ecological value. The widely known as sea-lettuce, specifically those of the genders Chara and Nitella are more numerous. These algae, having a whitish colour due to carbonate scales formed in their branches, grow into genuine underwater forests. |
