Submerged vegetation in Laguna Blanca
Semiarid surroundings of lagoons, barren plains and crops mainly, emphasize its uniqueness and create an amazing doorway to the Valle del Alto Guadiana.

If we have enough time and take a careful look around us, the Reserve will unveil its charms, one of them –perhaps the most beautiful and delicate- exists under water.  It is the submerged flora which adapted itself to the special characteristics of the lagoons and develops a lifestyle of high ecological value.

The widely known as sea-lettuce, specifically those of the genders Chara and Nitella are more numerous.  These algae, having a whitish colour due to carbonate scales formed in their branches, grow into genuine underwater forests.
