The Mediterranean Forest – Laguna Tomilla |
Vegetation covering the land which surrounds the lagoons differs from the shoreline flora; we can find a forest mass more familiar to these regions where the water level does not reach. This is the result of a semi-arid climate, a basic substrate and the constant involvement of men. This has outlined its actual appearance where the predominant tree is the evergreen oak, associated to savins the higher we move and to the muricated oak in shady areas. A combination of bushes grows and lives together, a characteristic of Mediterranean hills, being the most common ones kermes oak, rosemary, spurge flex, furze, turpentine tree; while madroña or peony are the least usual and they grow mainly in shady areas.
